Formerly a common childhood pathogen, mumps virus (MuV) remains active worldwide, despite relatively high vaccine coverage. MuV is thought to infect the upper respiratory tract before disseminating to other organs; however, the early cellular targets of MuV in vivo are unknown. To address this, we generated a green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged vaccine strain (JL5) of MuV to infect leukocytic cell lines and found that replication was greatest in monocytes.

Background: Clinical genetic evaluation of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is implemented variably or not at all. Identifying needs and barriers to genetic evaluations will enable strategies to enhance precision medicine care.
Methods: An online survey was conducted in June 2024 among cardiologist investigators of the DCM Consortium from US advanced heart failure/transplant (HF/TX) programs to collect demographics, training, program characteristics, genetic evaluation practices for DCM, and implementation needs.
Cumulative research finds that exposure to childhood trauma, sleep dysfunction, and high stress levels are prevalent in youth diagnosed with and at-risk for psychotic disorders. However, few studies have investigated the association between nightly sleep and moment-to-moment stress in youth who are at familial high-risk (FHR) for psychotic disorders with varying levels of exposure to childhood trauma. The current study examined the day-to-day associations between trauma severity, nightly sleep duration, and next-day momentary stress in 19 FHR and 19 non-psychiatric youth (ages 13-19 years, 66 % girls).

To understand how anhedonia emerges, changes with time, and relates with other symptoms, there is a need to understand patterns of this symptom's course reflecting change or stability-and associations with clinical symptoms and neural reward circuitry in adolescents at risk of SMI. In total, 113 adolescents at low or high familial risk of developing SMI completed clinical measures at up to five time points across 2 years and functional magnetic resonance imaging scanning during a guessing reward task at baseline.
