Maturation of conventional dendritic cells (cDCs) is crucial for maintaining tolerogenic safeguards against auto-immunity and for promoting immunogenic responses to pathogens and cancer. The subcellular mechanism for cDC maturation remains poorly defined. We show that cDCs mature by leveraging an internal reservoir of cholesterol (harnessed from extracellular cell debris and generated by de novo synthesis) to assemble lipid nanodomains on cell surfaces of maturing cDCs, enhance expression of maturation markers and stabilize immune receptor signaling.

Males in many species show courtship and mating preferences for certain females over others when given the choice. One of the most common targets of male mate choice in insects is female body size, with males preferring to court and mate with larger, higher-fecundity females and investing more resources in matings with those females. Although this preference is well-documented at the species level, less is known about how this preference varies within species and whether there is standing genetic variation for male mate choice within populations.

Objective: Previous Pediatrician Life and Career Experience Study (PLACES) 2016 data revealed that female pediatricians reported earning ∼94% of what male pediatricians reported, after adjusting for factors that might impact income. Has this disparity persisted?

Methods: Data from PLACES, a national longitudinal study, was used to examine pediatrician-reported income from 2017 to 2022. A regression analysis estimated the adjusted differences in female and male pediatricians' annual income for each survey year.

Aim: To describe sources of advice and the recommendations given to parents/guardians prior to attending ED with their child.

Methods: This was a prospective observational study of patients presenting to two EDs of a multi-centre Victorian Health service in June 2016. Data collection involved surveying all parents/guardians attending paediatric ED during a 1-week period by trained research assistants.

Importance: Without knowledge of the degree of misattribution in racial and ethnic designations in data, studies run the risk of missing existing inequities and disparities and identifying others that do not exist. Further, accuracy of racial and ethnic designations is important to clinical care improvement efforts and health outcomes.

Objective: To determine the error rate of racial and ethnic attribution in the electronic medical records (EMRs) across the 3 largest pediatric health systems in Michigan.
