Long-term treatment outcomes of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for fatigue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: Results of a randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: Fatigue is prevalent in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in remission. Previously, we showed that fatigued IBD patients experienced a significant decrease in fatigue after receiving mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). The current study examined to what extent these short-term beneficial effects of MBCT on fatigue were maintained over nine months follow-up, and whether patient characteristics were associated with clinically relevant improvement in fatigue.

Tolerance of Organ Transplant Recipients to Physical Activity during a High-Altitude Expedition: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Background: It is generally unknown to what extent organ transplant recipients can be physically challenged. During an expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, the tolerance for strenuous physical activity and high-altitude of organ transplant recipients after various types of transplantation was compared to non-transplanted controls.

Methods: Twelve organ transplant recipients were selected to participate (2 heart-, 2 lung-, 2 kidney-, 4 liver-, 1 allogeneic stem cell- and 1 small bowel-transplantation).

Metabolic inactivation of five glycidyl ethers in lung and liver of humans, rats and mice in vitro.

1. Some glycidyl ethers (GE) have been shown to be direct mutagens in short-term in vitro tests and consequently GE are considered to be potentially mutagenic in vivo. However, GE may be metabolically inactivated in the body by two different enzymatic routes: conjugation of the epoxide moiety with the endogenous tripeptide glutathione (GSH) catalysed by glutathione S-transferase (GST) or hydrolysis of the epoxide moiety catalysed by epoxide hydrolase (EH).

The promoter of the Xwnt-5C gene contains octamer and AP-2 motifs functional in Xenopus embryos.

The Xwnt-5C gene is expressed in Xenopus embryos from the early gastrula stage onwards. The transcription of Xwnt-5C is regulated differentially with respect to transcript size, timing and localization. To gain insight into the generation of the Xwnt-5C expression pattern, we started to analyze the transcriptional regulation of this gene.
