Objective: In the study, the laboratory results of 150 bovine abortion cases from 2018 (January-September) are presented.

Material And Methods: Depending on the submitted sample material and the requested examination, serological, bacteriological and/or molecular biological investigations were performed to detect abortion-causing pathogens which need or do not need to be notified in Austria.

Results: In addition to animal pathogens, the zoonotic pathogens and Dublin were detected in 1 case each and in 2 fetuses.

In June 2004, an egg packing station was epidemiologically incriminated as possibly distributing the vehicle of the Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica ser. Typhimurium definitive type (DT) U291 outbreak which began in September 2003 and--as of June 2004 affected more than 100 persons all over Austria and 8 German tourists.

The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of the progressive and non-progressive atrophic rhinitis of Upper Austrian swine herds. Further on the resistance pattern of the pathogens involved to chemotherapeutics was tested. In the period of May 1993 to June 1996 a total of 56 Upper Austrian swine herds were examined and on the occasion of the animal herd health management 997 nasal swab-samples of young pigs taken.
