An unusual case of intraorbital foreign body and its management.

A 36-year-old aboriginal female presented following an assault with a wooden fence paling. Examination revealed a wooden object protruding lateral to the left eyebrow. CT scan showed a blow-in fracture of lateral orbital wall and a hypodense foreign body causing indentation of the globe and stretching of the optic nerve.

Non-traumatic subperiosteal orbital hemorrhage secondary to barotrauma.

Purpose: To report a case of non-traumatic subperiosteal hemorrhage (NTSOH) secondary to barotrauma.

Material And Methods: Observational case report.

Results: A 42-year-old female presented with right proptosis with bilateral petechial lid hemorrhages, chemosis and diplopia following scuba diving.

External dacryocystorhinostomy: assessing factors that influence outcome.

Purpose: To present the experience of external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) at a tertiary referral center and investigate factors that may affect clinical outcomes.

Methods: The clinical records of all patients who underwent external DCR at Sydney Eye Hospital between May 2000 and August 2007 were reviewed. Data were collected in regards to patient demographics, preoperative assessment, operative details, surgical technique, postoperative management, and clinical outcomes.

The role of mucosal flaps in external dacryocystorhinostomy.

Purpose: To determine whether a mucosal anastomosis fashioned at the time of external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) influences postoperative outcome.

Methods: The clinical records of all patients who underwent external DCR at Sydney Eye Hospital between May 2000 and August 2007 were reviewed. Data were collected in regards to surgical technique, clinical outcomes and postoperative management.

Repair of isolated abortive cryptophthalmos with lower eyelid switch flap and amniotic membrane graft.

The surgical correction of a case of bilateral isolated abortive cryptophthalmos is described. An upper eyelid and superior fornix were successfully created in a 2-stage procedure using a switch flap from the patient's normal lower eyelid and an amniotic membrane graft. Exposure keratopathy was significantly reduced with resultant visual improvement.
