Home spirometry as early detector of azithromycin refractory bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome in lung transplant recipients.

Background: To evaluate the utility of home spirometry (HS) versus office spirometry (OS) in assessing treatment response to azithromycin in bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS).

Methods: 239 Lung transplant recipients were retrospectively studied. ΔFEV1 ± 10% from FEV1 at azithromycin initiation for ≥7 consecutive days in HS or ≥2 measures in OS were taken as cut-off for response or progression.

Unlabelled: AIB1 (amplified in breast cancer 1) is an estrogen receptorα (ERα) co-activator, known to be amplified and overexpressed in a fraction of breast cancers. It has been linked to prognosis and tamoxifen resistance. However, results have been ambiguous.

Family coping, styles, and challenges.

Creating a therapeutic partnership with patients and families during their crisis with cancer is both a challenging and extremely rewarding experience for the oncology nurse. Each family brings to the experience its own structure, maturational stage, culture, and history. They bring individual and group emotional responses, coping strategies and conflicts when confronting a disease over which they have no control.

The collaborative role of the CNS in support groups.

This project's purpose was to illustrate how the CNS is central to developing a support group using consultation and collaboration. Identification of patient and family needs is a growing challenge in general medicine. Otherwise left unresolved, the needs of the patient and family are addressed and met through the support group.
