INR variability in atrial fibrillation: a risk model for cerebrovascular events.

Background: Use of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for stroke prophylaxis in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) necessitates frequent monitoring of the international normalized ratio (INR) to avoid the increased risk of hemorrhage associated with excess anticoagulation, or ischemic stroke due to insufficient anticoagulation. We therefore developed a model to estimate the excess morbidity attributable to inadequate INR control in NVAF populations.

Methods: Equations expressing the risk of cerebrovascular events as a function of INR were generated using published data.

Burden of paediatric rotavirus gastroenteritis and potential benefits of a universal rotavirus vaccination programme with RotaTeq in France.

This study aimed at estimating the paediatric RotaVirus GastroEnteritis (RVGE) burden in children aged up to 5 years, and at evaluating health and economic benefits of a universal infant vaccination with a pentavalent rotavirus vaccine, in France. A decision analytic model was constructed considering a cohort of French children from birth to 5 years old. In the absence of a universal rotavirus immunisation programme, the model predicts that of every new French birth cohort, 336,738 children would present a RVGE case, which would result in 33,386 hospitalisations, 14 deaths and more than 279,000 work days lost for the parents.

Pharmacoeconomic assessment of specific immunotherapy versus current symptomatic treatment for allergic rhinitis and asthma in France.

Objectives: The therapeutic benefit of specific immunotherapy (SIT) in allergic rhinitis and asthma has been endorsed by expert consensus. This study compared the cost/efficacy (C/E) of SIT with current symptomatic treatments (CST) for allergic rhinitis and asthma.

Methods: A C/E analysis was performed using a decision tree model.

[Cost-effectiveness analysis of schizophrenic patient care settings: impact of an atypical antipsychotic under long-acting injection formulation].

Unlabelled: Schizophrenia is a disease affecting the young adults and amounts to approximately 300,000 people in France. The French public psychiatric sector takes care of approximately 150,000 adults schizophrenics: 50% benefit from ambulatory care, 50% are in partial or full-time hospitalization care. Schizophrenia represents the first diagnosis that psychiatric sectors take in charge.
