Functional analysis of cancer-associated germline risk variants.

Single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) in regulatory DNA are linked to inherited cancer risk. Massively parallel reporter assays of 4,041 SNVs linked to 13 neoplasms comprising >90% of human malignancies were performed in pertinent primary human cell types and then integrated with matching chromatin accessibility, DNA looping and expression quantitative trait loci data to nominate 380 potentially regulatory SNVs and their putative target genes. The latter highlighted specific protein networks in lifetime cancer risk, including mitochondrial translation, DNA damage repair and Rho GTPase activity.

Long term effectiveness of intraoperative radiotherapy given as a boost in adjuvant treatment for oral cavity cancers.

The oral cancer treatment of choice is surgical excision with an organ preservation, if it is possible. Radiation therapy is commonly used as a postoperative treatment. Delivering radiation dose during surgery, defined as intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT), can be very useful especially in case of high risk of recurrence or where gross or macroscopic residual disease are present.

Implementing Self-Measured Blood Pressure in Primary Care: A Feasible and Systematic Approach.

Randomized clinical trials and clinical practice guidelines recommend the use of self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) to help improve the treatment of patients with hypertension. Many clinicians use SMBP in their practices, but there is significant variability in how SMBP is implemented in their day-to-day practice. This quality improvement study details the pragmatic and real-world approach clinicians and administrators used at 3 sites of the IHA Medical Group, a part of Trinity Healthcare, to implement the American Medical Association (AMA) 7-Step SMBP framework as part of the larger AMA hypertension quality improvement program AMA MAP BP.

Non-invasive methods for diagnosing pregnancy in cows and their real value.

Proper management of cattle reproduction has a major impact on the efficiency and profitability of dairy production. Ultrasound examination and transrectal palpation or the pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG) test are currently the most commonly used methods for pregnancy diagnosis. However, alternative methods to those mentioned above are constantly being sought in order to minimise stress during the examination, the cost of veterinary services and to reduce the rate of errors in pregnancy diagnosis.

Trends in Blood Pressure Control among US Adults With Hypertension, 2013-2014 to 2021-2023.

Background: Prior studies have reported a decrease in the proportion of US adults with hypertension who had controlled blood pressure (BP).

Methods: We analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (n = 25,128, ≥18 years of age) to determine changes in BP control from 2013-2014 to 2021-2023. Hypertension was defined as systolic BP ≥140 mm Hg, diastolic BP ≥90 mm Hg, or antihypertensive medication use.
