NRF2 activation in the heart induces glucose metabolic reprogramming and reduces cardiac dysfunction via upregulation of the pentose phosphate pathway.

Aims: The transcription factor NRF2 is well recognized as a master regulator of antioxidant responses and cytoprotective genes. Previous studies showed that NRF2 enhances resistance of mouse hearts to chronic hemodynamic overload at least in part by reducing oxidative stress. Evidence from other tissues suggests that NRF2 may modulate glucose intermediary metabolism but whether NRF2 has such effects in the heart is unclear.

Birth outcomes following bictegravir exposure during pregnancy.

Objective: Bictegravir is increasingly prescribed as a co-formulated tablet with tenofovir alafenamide and emtricitabine to pregnant persons with HIV (PWH) despite limited pregnancy and birth outcome data. We sought to provide birth outcome data following exposure to bictegravir during pregnancy.

Design: We conducted a descriptive analysis of infants born to pregnant PWH 18-45 years of age enrolled in at least one Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS)-affiliated study who received bictegravir for ≥7 days during pregnancy and completed follow-up through delivery.

Does maternal education moderate the relationship between adolescent cannabis use and mental health in early adulthood?

Introduction: Socioeconomic disadvantage has been associated with cannabis use and poor mental health. It is therefore hypothesised that lower maternal education, a proxy for socioeconomic disadvantage, may increase the risk of cannabis-related mental health and substance use consequences.

Methods: A total of 5099 participants from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children reported cannabis use via questionnaires at 16 or 18.

Identification of Sarmentosin as a Key Bioactive from Blackcurrants ( for Inhibiting Platelet Monoamine Oxidase in Humans.

Previous clinical studies indicate that monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibition by blackcurrants must be predominantly attributed to bioactives other than anthocyanins. In this natural products discovery study, MAO-A/B inhibitory phytochemicals were isolated from blackcurrants, and a double-blind crossover study investigated the efficacy of freeze-dried whole-fruit blackcurrant powder in inhibiting MAO-B compared with blackcurrant juice in healthy adults. Platelet MAO-B inhibition was comparable between powder (89% ± 6) and juice (91% ± 4), and it was positively correlated with MAO-modulated plasma catecholamines, subjective alertness, and reduced mental fatigue, assessed using the Bond-Lader questionnaire.
