The authors discuss the mechanism of action, effectiveness, and safety of intranasal glucocorticosteroids (inGCS) used to treat acute, recurrent and chronic rhinosinusitis (RS). The last version of the European guidelines concerning the application of inGCS assigns the highest level of evidence-Ia and the highest strength of recommendations-A to these medications when applied for the treatment of acute and polypoid rhinosinusitis. Moreover, they acquire the status of the agents of choice for the therapy of chronic RS without polyps.

It has been shown in vitro that sodium nitroprusside (SN) causes a concentration-dependent suppression of the enzymatic activity of aminopyridine demethylase-APDM(IC50 = 1.86 x 10(-4) M) and ethoxycoumarin O-deethylase-ECOD(IC50 = 1.46 x 10(-4) M) in hepatic microsomes of Wistar rats, which is related to different isoforms of cytochrome P-450.

Changes in central hemodynamics as recorded by tetrapolar rheography were investigated in 90 coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with circulatory insufficiency (CI) receiving methiopril. Relevant clinical response was registered in 94%, hemodynamic in 83% of patients. Those with CI stage IIA and IIB benefited more.
