At the turn of the century, leaders of the Medical Society of New Jersey (MSNJ) created the Committee on Publication to establish an "up-to-date, bright, scientific medical journal that would prove helpful to the members of the profession in their practical work and scientific advancement." The first issue of The Journal of the Medical Society of New Jersey was published in September 1904. One thousand physicians read that issue; today, the journal is read by 12,000 physicians.
