Narrative review of mathematical and psychological studies of staff scheduling for holidays as applicable to anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists.

We performed a narrative review of articles applicable to anesthesiologists' and nurse anesthetists' choices of who works each statutory holiday for operating room and non-operating room anesthesia. We include search protocols and detailed supplementary annotated comments. Studies showed that holiday staff scheduling is emotional.

Contralateral prophylactic mastectomy in breast cancer patients who test negative for BRCA mutations.

Background: Determination of BRCA1 and 2 mutation carrier status is important. Although BRCA carriers are offered bilateral mastectomy and oophorectomy, most who test negative decline. Some women choose contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) at the time of their breast cancer diagnosis despite testing negative.

Familial small cell carcinoma of the ovary.

Ovarian tumors have a low incidence in childhood, accounting for 1% of malignancies within the ages of 0-17 years. Small cell carcinoma of the ovary is a rare histology and historically has a poor prognosis. We report a case of an 11-year-old female diagnosed with small cell carcinoma of the ovary and hypercalcemia (SCCOHT).

A survey of cancer patient preferences: which types of snacks do they prefer during treatment?

Cancer patients undergoing treatment may find it difficult to maintain proper caloric intake. This survey sought to characterize food/beverage preferences and services related to nutritional needs for oncology outpatients. A total of 222 adult oncology patients completed surveys while in an oncology clinic for treatment or for a medical appointment.
