Local electrochemical sample acidification for the detection of Pb traces.

Electrochemical detection of pollutants ( heavy metals) in real samples often requires the adjustment of pH to allow optimal sensitivity. Such sample pretreatment can be challenging for on-site applications as it implies the use of valves, pumps and storage of base or acid solutions. We report here the use of an electrochemical approach for the control of water sample pH.

Potential-Modulated Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy of Tolmetin at Gold Nanoparticle Film Functionalized Polarizable Liquid-Liquid Interfaces.

An aqueous colloidal suspension of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) may be condensed into a thin fractal film at the polarizable liquid-liquid interface formed between two immiscible electrolyte solutions upon injection of millimolar concentrations of sodium chloride to the aqueous phase. By adjusting the interfacial polarization conditions (negative, intermediate, and positive open-circuit potentials), the morphology of the film is modified, resulting in unique surface plasmon properties of the film, which enable in situ surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Intense SERS signals are observed at the polarizable liquid-liquid interface when micromolar concentrations of tolmetin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, are entrapped in the AuNP fractal film.

What We Learned from Performing the Inverse Malek Procedure to Repair Bilateral Cleft Lips and Palates: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

: This study reviews the surgical and functional outcomes of children diagnosed with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and treated by the same surgical team following specific surgical protocols 18 years after surgery and during the follow-up. : Based on a single-center retrospective design, demographic and surgical data were gathered by the authors from international institutions. Most of the data were quantitative in nature, and descriptive statistical and non-parametric tests were employed for analysis.

Effects of NPY-2 Receptor Antagonists, Semaglutide, PYY, and Empagliflozin on Early MASLD in Diet-Induced Obese Rats.

(1) Background: Modulators of the Neuropeptide Y (NPY) system are involved in energy metabolism, but the effect of NPY receptor antagonists on metabolic-dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), a common obesity-related comorbidity, are largely unknown. In this study, we report on the effects of antagonists of the NPY-2 receptor (Y2R) in comparison with empagliflozin and semaglutide, substances that are known to be beneficial in MASLD. (2) Methods: Diet-induced obese (DIO) male Wistar rats were randomized into the following treatment groups: empagliflozin, semaglutide ± PYY, the Y2R antagonists JNJ 31020028 and a food-restricted group, as well as a control group.
