The main goal of the present study was to evaluate the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) on the production of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P(3HB)) by Bacillus megaterium. Each microorganism has an optimal ORP range, and changes to the culture medium's ORP may redistribute the cell's metabolic flux, as such, the measurement and control of the ORP profile allows one to, in a way, manipulate the microbial metabolism, affecting the expression of certain enzymes and allowing for better control over the fermentative process. The ORP tests were carried out in a fermentation vessel coupled with an ORP probe, containing 1 L of mineral medium added with agroindustry byproducts (60% v/v of confectionery wastewater, and 40% v/v of rice parboiling water).

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) have evolved associations with roots of 60% plant species, but the net benefit for plants vary broadly from mutualism to parasitism. Yet, we lack a general understanding of the evolutionary and ecological forces driving such variation. To this end, we conducted a comparative phylogenetic experiment with 24 species of encompassing worldwide distribution, to address the effect of evolutionary history and environment on plant growth and chemical defenses in response to AMF colonization.

Retracing pathways of historical species introductions is fundamental to understanding the factors involved in the successful colonization and spread, centuries after a species' establishment in an introduced range. Numerous plants have been introduced to regions outside their native ranges both intentionally and accidentally by European voyagers and early colonists making transoceanic journeys; however, records are scarce to document this. We use genotyping-by-sequencing and genotype-likelihood methods on the selfing, global weed, , collected from 50 populations worldwide to investigate how patterns of genomic diversity are distributed among populations of this global weed.

In recent years, many studies have been conducted to develop functional meat products, focusing on strategies to maximize health-promoting compounds and reduce the presence of those that may cause negative impacts on the consumer's health. As such, the use of prebiotic, probiotic, and synbiotic agents in meat products has grown considerably. In addition, the use of new generation probiotics in meat products is a novel field that can be explored.

The tribe Plantagineae (Lamiales) is a group of plants with worldwide distribution, notorious for its complicated taxonomy and still unresolved natural history. We describe the result of a broadly sampled phylogenetic study of tribe. The expanded sampling dataset is based on the L-F spacer, L, and ITS2 markers across all three included genera (, and ) and makes this the most comprehensive study to date.
