A Comparison of Neuropathic Pain Experiences Among Paralympic Versus Recreational Athletes with Spinal Cord Injury.

Background: Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) report high levels of neuropathic pain. Current treatment options are primarily pharmaceutical, despite their limited effectiveness. Exercise may reduce neuropathic pain among persons with SCI; however, the optimal dose of exercise required to elicit analgesic effects remains unknown.

Regulation of transketolase like 1 gene expression in the murine one-cell stage embryos.

In mice, transcription from the zygotic genome starts at the mid-one-cell stage after fertilization. Previous studies showed that an enhancer is not required for transcription at this stage, and that the enhancer-dependent mechanism of transcription is established during the two-cell stage. However, these results were obtained using reporter gene assays with promoters derived from viruses, rather than from endogenous genes.

[Idiopathic lumbosacral plexus neuropathy in child. Case report].

We describe a lumbosacral plexus neuropathy case in childhood in which detailed investigation, including electromyography and magnetic resonance imaging, was normal. Muscle biopsy showed mild denervation. No underlying condition was detected.

Cocaine colitis. Is this a new syndrome?

An unusual case of colitis in a 37-year-old cocaine addict is described. The patient presented with right-sided abdominal pain and diarrhea exacerbated by his use of cocaine. Significant antibiotic ingestion was denied.

Nephrogenic adenoma of the urinary bladder and urethra.

The histologic and ultrastructural features of nephrogenic adenomas of the urinary bladder and urethra were studied in multiple specimens obtained from eight patients. Three of these were studied by indirect immunofluorescence for Tamm-Horsfall uromucoprotein. The lesions are uncommon benign metaplastic proliferations of urothelium, occurring most frequently in males as small cystic, papillary, or nodular masses and most often presenting with hematuria.
