Different isolates of hepatitis C virus (HCV) show nucleotide sequence variability throughout the genome. Detection of antibodies to recombinant proteins derived from hepatitis C virus genotype 1, the prototype HCV clone HCV-PT, constitutes the main method for screening HCV infection.
