Background: Duodenogastric reflux is a normal event that can be deleterious to the esophagic or gastric mucosa, depending on its magnitude, persistence, composition and gastric pH. There is not a definitive method to measure this phenomenon.

The spontaneous muscular activity of the masseter and two non-masticatory muscles, and their activity under conditions of noise and flickering light, were recorded in 30 patients with mandibular dysfunction, and in 25 control subjects. The mood of the subjects during the investigation, and the possible presence of emotional disturbances was evaluated by means of questionnaires. The enhanced muscular activity of the masseter muscle differentiated patients from the control group, although it does not constitute a pathognomic sign.

Between 1987 and 1990 twenty report cases who suffered carcinoma of the esophagus underwent transmediastinal esophagectomy without thoracotomy at the Surgery Service of the Edgardo Rehabilitation Hospital. Of the report cases 90% were at stage III, 5% of stage II and 5% at stage I of the TNM Classification. Post operative complications were cervical leaks, transitory dysphonia and respiratory illness, and were solved by conservative management.
