The aim of the paper is to present a case of a 5-year-old boy hospitalised because of recurrent high temperature and reddish blue infiltration of skin and hypodermis lasting 3 months. Because of pancytopenia and hepatomegaly, we suspected a proliferative disease of the haematopoietic or lymphatic system. Several bone marrow biopsies, did not show neoplastic changes.

We report herein the results of the cross-cultural adaptation and validation into the Polish language of the parent's version of two health related quality of life instruments. The Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire (CHAQ) is a disease specific health instrument that measures functional ability in daily living activities in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The Child Health Questionnaire (CHQ) is a generic health instrument designed to capture the physical and psychosocial well-being of children independently from the underlying disease.

A 17-year-old male patient with cystic fibrosis, advanced lung disease and finger clubbings presented symmetrical chronic arthritis of the knee and ankle joints of unknown origin. Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy diagnosed on the basis of the classic clinical features and anamnestic data was documented by the presence of periostosis of the tubular bones on radiographs. The considerably increased life expectancy of CF patients seems to mean the expansion of the list of diseases to be excluded when diagnosing JCA.

Using noninvasive investigative techniques, cardiac, pulmonary and gastrointestinal abnormalities were found in patients with all types of connective tissue diseases. Impedance rheography suggested impaired myocardial function. Abnormalities of pulmonary function included a decrease in diffusing lung capacity for CO (DL) values followed by restrictive ventilatory defects and mild alveolar hyperventilation.
