Article Synopsis
  • Dendritic cells (DC) are special cells in our body that help control our immune system and keep it balanced.
  • There are different types of these cells, and one type called tolerogenic (tol)DC helps prevent the immune system from overreacting, which is important for managing health issues.
  • Researchers have found ways to create these tolDC cells in the lab using a substance called IL-10, which helps them be really effective in promoting other helpful immune cells and keeping the immune response under control.

Article Synopsis
  • - Methyltestosterone (MT) is a commonly misused anabolic steroid, and its primary sulfate metabolite, S2, has a long detection window but lacked confirmed structural evidence until now.
  • - This study developed a method using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to identify S2 without needing complex sample prep, and it included both in vitro and in vivo analyses to solidify findings.
  • - By synthesizing and characterizing a reference standard of S2, the researchers provided definitive identification information, which is expected to improve anti-doping testing and evaluation methods.

Article Synopsis
  • Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma often influenced by a genetic mutation called NPM-ALK, which affects T cell identity and signaling pathways.
  • The study explored how the expression of the immune molecule CD45, crucial for T cell activation, is regulated by the oncogenic NPM-ALK, noting that ALK+ ALCL cells primarily express a specific isoform, CD45RO.
  • Researchers found that inhibition of NPM-ALK increased CD45RO levels and that this regulation required ALK's kinase activity; additionally, knocking out CD45 made ALCL cells more resistant to treatment with ALK inhibitors.

Neuroinflammation is one of the common features in most neurological diseases including multiple sclerosis (MScl) and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). It is associated with local brain inflammation, microglial activation, and infiltration of peripheral immune cells into cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the central nervous system (CNS). It has been shown that the diversity of phenotypic changes in monocytes in CSF relates to neuroinflammation.

Solar harvesting systems applied to asphalt roads consist of pipes or coils installed a few centimeters below the asphalt pavement surface. They work thanks to a circulating fluid able to collect the heat coming from solar irradiation of the pavement surface and convert it into thermal gradients that can be used for electric energy supply. Specific attention must be paid to the design of the asphalt mixtures comprising the system.
