Biochemical, Histopathological and Molecular Responses in Gills of Leuciscus cephalus Exposed to Metals.

Gills are major targets for acute metal toxicity in fish, due to their permanent contact with aquatic pollutants. To assess the effects of metals on gills of the Leuciscus cephalus (chub), fish individuals were collected from two sites in the Tur River, Romania, in upstream (site 1) and downstream (site 2) of a metal pollution source. Quantitative and hyperspectral analyses showed that Zn, Sr, and Fe concentrations were significantly higher in gills from site 2 compared with site 1.

Benefits of early haemofiltration during aorto-bifemural bypass with mesenteric revascularization - a case report.

The intraoperative vs postoperative initiation of haemofiltration procedures in patients submitted for major vascular surgery is a controversial issue and a subject of debate in recent literature. We report the case of a 50 yr old patient scheduled for aorto-bifemoral bypass with mesenteric revascularization in whom the haemofiltration procedure (Prismaflex with Onix filter) was installed intraoperatively. Known to have non-insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes, the patient was admitted for Leriche syndrome, abdominal aorta thrombosis, superior and inferior mesenteric artery occlusion, celiac trunk occlusion, bilateral critical limb ischemia and mild renal impairment.

Study of the immune state in patients with a history of subacute bacterial endocarditis and in their direct relatives. Pathogenic implications.

Immunologic investigations were performed in 18 patients at a mean interval of 1.8 years after cure of subacute bacterial endocarditis (SBE) and in 17 of their direct relatives. The results were compared with those obtained in a control group of 52 healthy subjects.
