Article Synopsis
  • Alloreactive T-cell responses can lead to graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after allogeneic stem cell transplants, negatively impacting patient health by causing increased morbidity and mortality.
  • However, these T-cells can also target remaining tumor cells in a beneficial way, contributing to the graft-versus-tumor effect (GVT) which helps prevent cancer relapse.
  • The text discusses a method for identifying alloreactive naïve and memory T cells through co-culturing with antigen-presenting cells, using a CFSE dilution technique to track activation, which can then be analyzed for further research.

Unlabelled: Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) captured from the bloodstream of patients with solid tumors have the potential to accelerate precision oncology by providing insight into tumor biology, disease progression and response to treatment. However, their potential is hampered by the lack of standardized CTC enrichment platforms across tumor types. EpCAM-based CTC enrichment, the most commonly used platform, is limited by EpCAM downregulation during metastasis and the low EpCAM expression in certain tumor types, including the highly prevalent and lethal NSCLC.

The natural transmission cycle of West Nile virus (WNV) involves birds as primary hosts and mosquitoes as vectors, but this virus can spread to mammals, human beings included. Asymptomatic infected donors pose a risk to the safety of blood transfusions and organ transplants, as WNV can be transmitted through these medical procedures. Since 2009, the region of Emilia-Romagna in northern Italy has been implementing an integrated surveillance system in order to detect WNV circulation in the environment at an early stage.

Tissue-resident memory CD8 T cells (T) kill infected cells and recruit additional immune cells to limit pathogen invasion at barrier sites. Small intestinal (SI) T cells consist of distinct subpopulations with higher expression of effector molecules or greater memory potential. We hypothesized that occupancy of diverse anatomical niches imprints these distinct T transcriptional programs.

BackgroundHuman leishmaniasis is a protozoan disease transmitted by sand flies and endemic in the Mediterranean region. In Italy, leishmaniasis is present in the south and the western coastal regions, with an epidemic peak detected in northern Italy in the early 1970s.AimTo examine temporal trends, and demographic, clinical, geographical and environmental features of human leishmaniasis cases recorded by the local health unit (LHU) of Bologna, northern Italy.
