Research about the prevalence of fibromyalgia in podiatric patients is limited, with data suggesting potentially higher estimates and greater foot impairment in patients with fibromyalgia compared to healthy individuals. The aim of our study is to assess the prevalence of fibromyalgia in the podiatric healthcare setting and to research the characteristics of fibromyalgia patients with foot or ankle disorders. : Consecutive patients visiting the academic podiatry clinic at the University of Bologna IRCCS Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute between 11 January and 31 March 2021 were enrolled.

Dental care and dentistry practice in the Medieval Medical School of Salerno.

Even though dental care is sometimes erroneously considered a modern practice, written records from major ancient civilisation all around the world date back to several millennia BC. In particular, in the Middle Ages, among the tenth and thirteenth centuries, the illustrious Medical School of Salerno in Italy, the most important institution in the Western world for the diffusion of medical knowledge, disseminated through its precepts the importance of oral hygiene and practiced specific dental therapies for tooth decay, gingivitis, paradentosis and halitosis among others. Interestingly, several of the officinal plants and natural ingredients proposed for oral care by the school's most famous physicians recipes, notably those of the legendary Trotula De Ruggiero, considered the first female physician in history, are still in vogue in the twenty-first century.

An emerging new class of targeted therapeutic molecules against the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) is a novel series of pyrrolo-1,5-benzoxa(thia)zepine compounds. A member of this family, pyrrolo-1,5-benzoxazepine-15 (PBOX-15), is a tubulin depolymerizing agent displaying a proapoptotic activity in a variety of human tumor cell types, including those derived from both solid and hematological malignancies, with minimal toxicity towards normal blood and bone marrow cells. In this study, we evaluated the PBOX-15-mediated effects in human colorectal cancer cell (CRC) lines.

A focus on Trotula dé Ruggiero: a pioneer in women's and children's health in history of medicine.

Trotula dé Ruggiero was the first female physician in history of medicine and her role at Medical School of Salerno. Her reputation in the Middle Ages was so important that her theoretical manuscripts were diffused in all European universities and laid the foundations for modern medicine. Of note, Trotula deepened medicine as an eternal dichotomy between art and science, narrative and evidence.

Auditory system involvement in late onset Pompe disease: a study of 20 Italian patients.

Glycogen storage disease type II (GSD II), also known as Pompe disease, is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder caused by a reduced activity of acid alpha glucosidase (GAA). Two different clinical entities have been described: rapidly fatal infantile and late onset forms. Hearing loss has been described in classic infantile Pompe patients but rarely in late onset cases.
