We present a 50-year-old man who was investigated for sensorineural hearing loss. On MRI of the brain superficial siderosis of the central nervous system was seen, while MRI of the spine revealed an ependymoma of the cauda equina. This case illustrates the importance of performing T2-weighted imaging of the brain and posterior fossa when sensorineural hearing loss is present.

A 50-year-old nurse with chronic back pain developed painful paraesthesia in the legs and saddle region during walking. Because pain in the legs could not be provoked by standing erect, the orthotic-lordotic cauda syndrome or neurogenic intermittent claudication (spinal canal stenosis) became unlikely and vascular intermittent claudication likely. The femoral pulses were absent.

A 68-year-old man developed subacutely bilateral loss of visual acuity without any other neurological sign. Magnetic resonance images showed some small scattered periventricular white matter T2 hypersignals. On spinal fluid analysis a mononuclear pleocytosis and an oligoclonal gamma-pattern was found.

After birth the facial skeleton grows more, and over a longer period, than the neurocranium. The facial skeleton shows an extra growth in comparison with the latter. In young rabbits the dorso-ventral continuity of the septal cartilage was interrupted by various partial resections.
