The rising prevalence of obesity has led to a substantial investment in the advancement of treatment options for the disease and its comorbid conditions including lifestyle, pharmacologic, and procedural interventions. In this study, we describe a patient with a history of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass who was diagnosed with ischemic jejunitis on upper endoscopy because of the development of an internal hernia, a known late complication of bariatric surgery. This case highlights the diagnostic utility of endoscopy in postgastric bypass complications and the need for safer alternatives to surgery that have the potential to achieve significant weight loss such as bariatric endoscopic therapies.

We describe the case of a 72-year-old male suffering from Marfan syndrome, who, because of cardiac abnormalities correlated to the syndrome, received an orthotopic heart transplant four years ago. In 2024, he was diagnosed with right colon cancer. The decision to operate was difficult because of the elevated perioperative risk.

The stomata of fossil plants are commonly used as proxies to reconstruct palaeo-atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations (palaeo-[CO]). Stomatal reconstruction of palaeo-[CO] during global greenhouse periods or episodes of global warming, are particularly important to our understanding of the role of CO as a climate system driver. However, the efficacy of the 'stomatal method' for palaeo-[CO] reconstruction depends upon the strength of the inverse relationship between stomatal number and the [CO] in which the leaf developed.

Retinal stimulation (RS) allows restoring vision in blind patients, but it covers only a narrow region of the visual field. Optic nerve stimulation (ONS) has the potential to produce visual perceptions spanning the whole visual field, but it produces very irregular phosphenes. We introduced a geometrical model converting retinal and optic nerve firing rates into visual perceptions and vice versa and a method to estimate the best perceptions elicitable through an electrode configuration.
