Background: Data on the association between atrial fibrillation (AF) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) are controversial.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk of VTE in patients with AF according to the time from AF diagnosis.

Methods: Systematic review of MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (EBSCO host), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (2020) in the Cochrane Library, and World Health Organization Global Index Medicus databases and meta-analysis of observational studies.

Effect of limb and cuff positioning on measurement of arterial blood pressure with an oscillometry device (PetMAP) in anaesthetized cats.

Arterial blood pressure (ABP) is often measured with oscillometry during anaesthesia. Changing the height of the measuring cuff with respect to the level of the heart is known to affect oscillometry accuracy in some species; however, this effect has not been investigated in cats. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of raising and lowering the measuring cuff from standard position (level of the heart) on ABP, measured with PetMAP, in anaesthetised cats.

Mobile health technology in pediatric EGD quality indicators assessment: results from a national program of the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Background And Aims: Upper endoscopy (UE) procedures (EGD and ERCP) are an established standard of care in pediatric gastroenterology. The Pediatric Endoscopy Quality Improvement Network (PEnQuIN) recently published its pediatric-specific endoscopy quality guidelines. This study, initiated by the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, aims to evaluate the adherence of Italian pediatric endoscopy centers (PECs) to these established quality standards.

Risk of venous thromboembolism in autoimmune diseases: A comprehensive review.

Autoimmune diseases have specific pathophysiologic mechanisms leading to an increased risk of arterial and venous thrombosis. The risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) varies according to the type and stage of the disease, and to concomitant treatments. In this review, we revise the most common autoimmune disease such as antiphospholipid syndrome, inflammatory myositis, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, Sjogren syndrome, autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, vasculitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
