Aim: To compare the effectiveness of strength versus endurance training on reducing visceral fat in individuals with obesity.
Materials And Methods: For the STrength versus ENdurance (STEN) 24-month randomized clinical trial, we assigned 239 participants with abdominal obesity to either strength or endurance training (two to three times a week, 60 min/training session) in addition to standard nutritional counselling to promote a healthy diet. Changes in abdominal visceral adipose tissue (VAT) area quantified by magnetic resonance imaging after 12 months were defined as a primary endpoint.
Context: Breastfeeding is associated with a reduced maternal risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
Objective: Since the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood, we here examined the effect of breastfeeding on the plasmatic coagulation system in women with and without history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
Methods: A total of 76 participants of the German Gestational Diabetes Study (PREG; NCT04270578) were examined 14 months (interquartile range [IQR], 12-26 months) after delivery with a 5-point oral glucose tolerance test.
Lipodystrophy syndromes (LD) are a heterogeneous group of very rare congenital or acquired disorders characterized by a generalized or partial lack of adipose tissue. They are strongly associated with severe metabolic dysfunction due to ectopic fat accumulation in the liver and other organs and the dysregulation of several key adipokines, including leptin. Treatment with leptin or its analogues is therefore sufficient to reverse some of the metabolic symptoms of LD in patients and in mouse models through distinct mechanisms.

B6J mice carry a spontaneous deletion mutation in the nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase () gene eliminating exons 7-11, resulting in expression of a truncated form of , an enzyme that pumps protons across the inner mitochondrial membrane. It has been proposed that this mutation in B6J mice is associated with epigonadal fat mass and altered sensitivity to diet induced obesity.
