Hydroxyl radical (OH) plays a critical role in accelerating organic contaminant attenuation during water-table decline in paddy soil, but the impacts of widely applied agricultural amendments (e.g., organic manure, rice straw, and biochar) on these processes have been rarely explored.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOwing to its high sensitivity, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has immense potential for the identification of lung cancer from the variation in volatile biomarkers in the exhaled gas. However, two prevailing factors limit the application of SERS: 1) the adsorption of target molecules into SERS hotspots and 2) the detection specificity in multiple interference environments. To improve the density of the SERS hotspots, 3D Au@Ag-Au particles are prepared in a porous nanoframes (PPFs) based plasmonic structure, which facilitated a richer local electromagnetic field distribution among the Au nanocubic (NC) cores, Au-Ag porous nanoframes, and Au nanoparticles, thereby promoting the adsorption probability of gaseous aldehydes into the hotspots.

Background: Ortholog prediction, essential for various genomic research areas, faces growing inconsistencies amidst the expanding array of ortholog databases. The common strategy of computing consensus orthologs introduces additional arbitrariness, emphasizing the need to examine the causes of such inconsistencies and identify proteins susceptible to prediction errors.
Results: We introduce the Signal Jaccard Index (SJI), a novel metric rooted in unsupervised genome context clustering, designed to assess protein similarity.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a widely used plastic, but the potential risk of heavy metal additive release from PVC microplastics (MPs) has not been fully explored. This study evaluates the release of lead (Pb) from recycled PVC MPs under natural conditions. The released Pb concentration in the dark was 1079.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCorneal inflammation, a condition that can potentially lead to blindness, is often treated with topical eye drops. However, the limited ocular drug bioavailability of the eye drops necessitates frequent dosing. Herein, a nanoemulsion-based pseudopolyrotaxane hydrogel was fabricated to improve corneal bioavailability and thereby suppress inflammation.
