Background: Following a stroke, brain activation reorganisation, movement compensatory strategies, motor performance and their evolution through rehabilitation are matters of importance for clinicians. Two non-invasive neuroimaging methods allow for recording task-related brain activation: functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and electroencephalography (fEEG), respectively based on hemodynamic response and neuronal electrical activity. Their simultaneous measurement during movements could allow a better spatiotemporal mapping of brain activation, and when associated to kinematic parameters could unveil underlying mechanisms of functional upper limb (UL) recovery.

Following events such as fatigue or stroke, individuals often move their trunks forward during reaching, leveraging a broader muscle group even when only arm movement would suffice. In previous work, we showed the existence of a "force reserve": a phenomenon where individuals, when challenged with a heavy weight, adjusted their motor coordination to preserve approximately 40% of their shoulder's force. Here, we investigated if such reserve can predict hip, shoulder, and elbow movements and torques resulting from an induced shoulder strength deficit.

Unilateral spatial neglect is a common sensorimotor disorder following the occurrence of a stroke, for which prismatic adaptation is a promising rehabilitation method. However, the use of prisms for rehabilitation often requires the use of specific equipment that may not be available in clinics. To address this limitation, we developed a new software package that allows for the quantification and rehabilitation of unilateral spatial neglect using immersive virtual reality.

Kinematic analysis of the upper limbs is a good way to assess and monitor recovery in individuals with stroke, but it remains little used in clinical routine due to its low feasibility. The aim of this study is to assess the validity and reliability of the Kinect v2 for the analysis of upper limb reaching kinematics. Twenty-six healthy participants performed seated hand-reaching tasks while holding a dumbbell to induce behaviour similar to that of stroke survivors.

Parkour is a growing sport that mostly involves jumping, vaulting over obstacles, and climbing in a non-dedicated setting. The authors gathered all known relevant literature across miscellaneous academic fields in order to define parkour with regard to other sports disciplines. Parkour is a lifestyle sport, and as such provides an alternative to mainstream sports, away from strict rules, standardized settings, and necessary competitions.
