Patients with sickle cell anemia often express myriad clinical signs and symptoms that affect their life-style and academic performance. Certain psychoeducational and psychosocial factors have been shown to influence the academic achievement of older patients with sickle cell anemia. However, studies evaluating the school readiness skills of younger children have not been published.

An unusual case of appendicitis is presented. The appendix was not found in its usual site: it was found to be projecting from the ascending colon about 10 cm from the junction of the taeniae of the caecum. It is suggested that if the appendix is not located in its usual place, a thorough examination should be made of other sites before the search is abandoned.

An illustrative case report and a review of the literature are presented. The tarsal tunnel syndrome is a relatively rare syndrome consisting of pain, paresthesias, and varying degrees of motor and vasomotor changes in any or all three branches of the posterior tibial nerve at the ankle. It represents a pressure neuropathy secondary to intrinsic or extrinsic stenosis of the tarsal tunnel, with a wide variety of underlying causes.
