We report a case of septic thrombophlebitis of the right internal jugular vein linked with right-sided acute parotitis caused by methicillin-resistant (MRSA) in a patient who had recently undergone a pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy. Our case is unique because acute parotitis is a less-recognized cause of Lemierre's syndrome, never previously linked with MRSA infection in this context. We review the literature on diagnosis and management of Lemierre's syndrome caused by acute parotitis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFStudy Objectives: This study aimed to (1) examine the relationship between subjective and actigraphy-defined sleep, and next-day fatigue in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS); and (2) investigate the potential mediating role of negative mood on this relationship. We also sought to examine the effect of presleep arousal on perceptions of sleep.
Methods: Twenty-seven adults meeting the Oxford criteria for CFS and self-identifying as experiencing sleep difficulties were recruited to take part in a prospective daily diary study, enabling symptom capture in real time over a 6-day period.
Psychological therapy is generally considered the treatment of choice for psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES), but there is a paucity of research on patients' attitudes towards psychological referral. We conducted semistructured interviews with twelve patients with PNES awaiting psychological treatment in order to understand their perceived treatment needs. Data were analyzed inductively according to the principles of thematic analysis.
