Background: Despite the widespread use of pulse oximetry for intraoperative estimation of arterial oxygen saturation, there is growing evidence that certain patient populations may be vulnerable to inaccurate pulse oximetry measurements and that unrecognized hypoxemia is associated with end-organ damage and adverse outcomes. In this single-center retrospective cohort study, we sought to better elucidate the relationship between intraoperative occult hypoxemia and postoperative mortality among patients undergoing anesthesia and surgery.
Methods: Data were collected from our departmental data warehouse for adult patients (≥18 years) undergoing anesthesia between 2008 and 2019 with at least 1 intraoperative arterial blood gas recorded.
In a novel, on-road study, using a 'Ghost Driver' to emulate an automated vehicle (AV), we captured over 10 hours of video (n = 520) and 64 survey responses documenting the behaviour and attitudes of pedestrians in response to the AV. Three prototype external human-machine interfaces (eHMIs) described the AV's behaviour, awareness and intention using elements of anthropomorphism: High (human face), Low (car motif), Abstract (partial representation of human features that lacked precise visual reference); these were evaluated against a (no eHMI) baseline. Despite many pedestrians reporting that they still relied on vehicular cues to negotiate their crossing, there was a desire/expectation expressed for explicit communication with future AVs.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate extrinsic tooth stain removal and whitening efficacy of two experimental dentifrices containing (i) 5% sodium tripolyphosphate (STP)/1% micronized alumina or (ii) 5% STP/1% micronized alumina with abrasive silica (ED2) compared to a regular fluoride dentifrice (RFD) following 8 weeks of use.
Materials And Methods: This was a single-center, randomized, controlled, blind, three-arm, stratified, parallel-group study. Eligible participants underwent clinical assessment of stain on the facial/lingual surfaces of maxillary and mandibular teeth using the modified Lobene stain index (MLSI), and shade of the facial surfaces of the central and lateral maxillary incisors using the VITA Bleachedguide 3D-Master (VITA) shade guide.
Background: While the unregulated drug market has seen dramatic increases in fentanyl adulteration in the past decade, other adulterants have impacted the recent volatility of the drug supply. There has been recent documentation related to the presence of wound-associated substances; however, there is a lack of data showing the prevalence of these substances across unregulated drug market samples over time. The aim of this paper is to examine known and potential wound-associated agents' (xylazine, levamisole, medetomidine) prevalence in Maryland's unregulated drug supply.
