Background: The effect of age and gender differences on anorectal function, symptoms severity, and quality of life (QoL) in patients with chronic constipation (CC) is not well studied. This study examines the impact of age and gender on anorectal function testing (AFT) characteristics, symptoms burden, and QoL in patients with CC.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from 2550 adults with CC who completed AFT.

A Case of Membranous Nephropathy Hypothesized to be Associated With COVID-19 Vaccine.

A 56-year-old male patient with a medical history of essential hypertension was referred to the emergency room after he was found to have a serum creatinine level of 13 mg/dL at his primary care physician's office. The patient reported that he had developed a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-like infection six months prior that was not confirmed. Two months later, he started to notice dyspnea on exertion and bilateral lower limb swelling and was started on furosemide.

Can a Defecation Posture Modifying Device Correct an Abnormal Balloon Expulsion Test in Chronically Constipated Patients?

Evacuation disorders are common among chronically constipated (CC) patients who fail to respond to laxatives and are typically diagnosed by anorectal manometry (ARM) and/or balloon expulsion testing (BET). Recently, there has been emerging interest in the use of defecation posture-modifying devices (DPMDs) to improve constipation symptoms, presumably by replicating the physiologic benefits of squatting on stool evacuation, such as straightening of the anorectal angle and relaxing the pelvic floor. However, the ability of DPMDs to normalize anorectal function in adult patients with CC has not been studied.

Cerebral Venous Thrombosis Presenting as a Subacute Headache in a Young Man With Undiagnosed Factor V Leiden Mutation.

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVT) is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition that presents with non-specific symptoms. This condition is more common in women and can be associated with local infection and hypercoagulable conditions, including protein C and S deficiency, factor V Leiden mutation, anti-thrombin III deficiency, thrombophilia, vasculitis, and malignancy. We report the case of a 24-year-old man who presented with a left temporal headache and right upper and lower extremity paresthesia.

M-VAC or MVC for the treatment of advanced transitional cell carcinoma: metastatic, induction, and adjuvant.

The cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy regimens of M-VAC (methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin, cisplatin) or MVC (methotrexate, vincristine, cisplatin) were given to 25 patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma, 13 with locally advanced bladder cancer, and 10 as adjuvant therapy after radical surgery. Toxicity was significant with two deaths. Forty-eight percent of the patients with metastatic disease had a complete (20%) or partial (28%) response.
