Background: The diagnosis and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) are crucial for tuberculosis (TB) control. Household contacts (HHC) of patients with pulmonary TB are at a high risk of LTBI due to their close proximity to source cases.
Objective: To describe the diagnosis and treatment of LTBI among HHC.
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the main functional index of kidney health and disease. Currently, no methods are available to directly measure tubular mass and function. Here, we report a serendipitous finding that the in vitro cell viability dye resazurin can be used in mice as an exogenous sensor of tubular function.

In this study, we elucidate the antimicrobial significance of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2)-derived ROS, as opposed to mitochondrial ROS, in facilitating neutrophil-mediated eradication of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), the primary causative agent of UTI. Furthermore, NOX2-derived ROS regulate NF-κB-mediated inflammatory responses in neutrophils against UPEC by inducing the release of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) from its inhibitor, Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1).

The heightened susceptibility to skin cancer correlates with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can induce various cutaneous injuries. Inorganic UV filters, like zinc oxide (ZnO), are extensively utilized in sunscreens owing to their capacity to scatter and reflect UV radiation. The efficacy of inorganic UV filters can be augmented across a wider spectrum through synergistic combinations with other active compounds, such as organic UV filters.

A cross-sectional study was carried out, including 38,779 Brazilian adolescent students, aged 13 to 17 years, participating in the Brazilian National Survey of School Health (PeNSE) in 2019, who declared sexual initiation. The proportion of emergency contraception use at least once in life and the form of access to the method were estimated.
