Liver paired exchange: A US single-center experience-Pairs, chains, and use of compatible pairs.

In the United States, the discrepancy between organ availability and need has persisted despite changes in allocation, innovations in preservation, and policy initiatives. Living donor liver transplant remains an underutilized means of improving access to timely liver transplantation and decreasing waitlist mortality. Liver paired exchange (LPE) represents an opportunity to overcome living donor liver transplant pair incompatibility due to size, anatomy, or blood type.

Kidney transplant patients are prone to a variety of complications, even for the most experienced surgical teams. Our busy transplant center recently performed its 5,000th solid organ transplant. We present the case of an 18-year-old male with end-stage renal disease who underwent a deceased donor kidney transplant.

Colonic mucormycosis in solid organ transplantation: Case report and review of the literature (colonic mucormycosis after DDLT).

Mucormycosis is an opportunistic fungal infection that can occur throughout the body and carries a high mortality. Colonic mucormycosis is an uncommon form of the disease whose successful treatment relies upon a high degree of clinical suspicion and early, often empiric, therapy. We report colonic mucormycosis in a liver transplant patient and review the literature on colonic mucormycosis in solid organ transplant recipients.

Exenatide regulates pancreatic islet integrity and insulin sensitivity in the nonhuman primate baboon Papio hamadryas.

The glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist exenatide improves glycemic control by several and not completely understood mechanisms. Herein, we examined the effects of chronic intravenous exenatide infusion on insulin sensitivity, β cell and α cell function and relative volumes, and islet cell apoptosis and replication in nondiabetic nonhuman primates (baboons). At baseline, baboons received a 2-step hyperglycemic clamp followed by an l-arginine bolus (HC/A).
