Cytotoxic Activity of Distinct Families of Phosphonic Acid Derivatives - A Chemocentric Approach to Assess Their Molecular Action.

Phosphorus containing small molecules (particularly α-aminophosphonates, α-hydroxyphosphonates and bisphosphonates) represent a unique chemical space among the biologically active compounds. We selected 35 diverse compounds that showed remarkable cytotoxicity effects on various cancer cell lines. However, the exact mechanism of action often requires further investigations, in vitro or in silico target identification even though many target-based activity data were gathered for the above cluster of compounds.

[Changes in patients’ religiosity related to dementia].

Dementia is characterized by the presence of progressive cognitive and behavioral symptoms which affect normal functioning. With the purpose of determining if there are any changes related to patients’ religiosity due to dementia, we developed a questionnaire aiming to evaluate changes pre and post diagnostic. In effect, we observed that patients with dementia might experience a reduction of the importance given to religion and its associated practices with the disease progression.

Incidental detection of pheochromocytoma during workup for symptomatic aortic stenosis: A case report and management discussion.

Pheochromocytoma patients with high levels of circulating catecholamines are at risk of cardiovascular complications related to hypertensive emergencies and subsequent organ damage. A patient with concomitant aortic stenosis and pheochromocytoma has compounded risk of cardiovascular complications, especially during surgery, which complicates medical decision-making. We report a patient with Turner syndrome and congenital heart defects (CHDs) who was incidentally discovered to have a pheochromocytoma during workup of symptomatic severe bioprosthetic aortic stenosis.
