The HELICA-Endoprosthesis is a new cementless hip implant for dogs with severe hip osteoarthritis, successfully used in 39 dogs and one with chronic hip luxation.
Both the femoral stem and acetabular component are designed to screw into the bone, eliminating the need for additional fixation until the bone integrates fully.
While most surgeries were promising, some complications arose from technical errors, leading to a few cases of loosening and the need for surgical revisions, but overall, dogs showed good recovery and weight-bearing abilities shortly after surgery.
