Endometriosis can impair fertility by reducing ovarian reserve and the production of good-quality oocytes. The surgical removal of endometriotic lesions is generally recommended for women who wish to conceive. In this paper we studied whether ovarian cortex adjacent to excised small (diameter ≤ 4 cm) endometriotic cyst (here referred as Cortex Surrounding Endometriotic Cyst, CSEC) showed signs of tissue damages by evaluating the expression of proteins involved in DNA repair and apoptosis.
