Prophylactic ablation during cardiac surgery in patients without atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials.

Objectives: Atrial fibrillation is the most common complication of cardiac surgery and occurs frequently in patients without a history of the arrhythmia. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to assess whether prophylactic ablation during cardiac surgery in patients without a history of atrial fibrillation prevents atrial fibrillation.

Methods: We searched CENTRAL, MEDLINE and Embase from inception to August 2024.

Rivaroxaban plus aspirin after lower-extremity revascularization.

Introduction: Patients undergoing revascularization of the lower extremities have unacceptably high rates of major adverse cardiac and limb events despite the routine use of antiplatelet therapy. Optimization of antithrombotic therapy provides an opportunity to reduce this risk. Recent large, randomized trials have demonstrated substantial benefit from the combination of low-dose rivaroxaban and aspirin compared with aspirin alone.

Strategies to reduce out-of-pocket medication costs for Canadians with peripheral arterial disease.

Background: Given that peripheral arterial disease (PAD) disproportionately affects people of lower socioeconomic status, out-of-pocket expenses for preventive medications are a major barrier to their use. We carried out a cost comparison of drug therapies for PAD to identify prescribing strategies that minimize out-of-pocket expenses for these medications.

Methods: Between March and June 2019, we contacted outpatient pharmacies in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to assess pricing of pharmacologic therapies at dosages included in the 2016 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guideline for management of lower extremity PAD.

Breast Implant-associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Initial Review and Early Recommendations.

Unlabelled: The purpose of this study is to identify and describe all published cases of breast implant-associated squamous cell carcinoma (BIA-SCC) to gain a greater understanding of the incidence, presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis and to support development of recommendations that promote prompt diagnosis and management in clinical practice.

Methods: A scoping review of PubMed and social media sites was performed in August and September 2022 to identify published cases of SCC arising in the breast capsule. No limits were set on search results.
