Access to Kidney Transplantation for Minority Children With End-Stage Renal Disease and Predictors of Post-Transplant Outcome: Impact of Race and Ethnicity.

Background: Racial disparities in access to kidney transplantation (KT) have been described among children with end-stage renal disease in the United States. It has been suggested that these disparities stem from a combination of clinical and socioeconomic factors.

Methods: We evaluated data from the US Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) of all pediatric (< 18 years old) KT recipients from 1999 to 2014 and compared outcomes by race or ethnicity: Hispanic, non-Hispanic Whites (NHW), and non-Hispanic Blacks (NHB).

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Trends in Causing Pediatric Urinary Tract Infections in the United States.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common pediatric infections. This study evaluated the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of 3511 uropathogenic (UPEC) isolated from pediatric patients in the United States from 2014 to 2023. Night flight facilitates late breeding catch-up in a long-distance migratory seabird.

Long-distance migrants must optimise their timing of breeding to capitalise on resources at both breeding and over-wintering sites. In species with protracted breeding seasons, departing earlier on migration might be advantageous, but is constrained by the ongoing breeding attempt. Here we investigated how breeding timing affects migratory strategies in the Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinus), a trans-hemispheric migratory seabird with large temporal variation in the onset of breeding.

Intra-articular Synovial Ganglion of the Wrist.

Synovial ganglions, common soft tissue tumors of the hand and wrist, typically occur in the dorsal and volar aspects of the wrist, but intra-articular cases are rare. We present a case of a 27-year-old equestrian with persistent left wrist pain who was diagnosed with an intra-articular radiocarpal synovial ganglion after failed conservative management. Arthroscopic resection led to complete resolution of symptoms and functional recovery.
