Kaethe Kollwitz was a 20th century German artist who grew to fame for her socio-political impressions of Germany during World Wars I and II. In her diary, Kollwitz self-described symptoms of Alice in Wonderland Syndrome during her childhood. She complained of episodes where objects appeared to grow larger or smaller and perceptual distortions where she felt she was diminishing in size.

Objective: This article presents a case report illustrating an improvement in the curvature of idiopathic scoliosis as a secondary benefit from treatment of adhesive capsulitis with an active therapeutic movement (ATM) device.
Clinical Features: The patient was a 55-year-old school teacher who was referred to physical therapy for adhesive capsulitis. It was determined that part of the patient's limited shoulder range of motion was due to her significant kyphoscoliosis posture, which resulted in decreased mobility of her thoracic spine.
The unexplained occurrence of anoxic phosphorus (P) accumulation has largely hampered modeling of nitrification denitrification biological excess P removal (NDBEPR) systems. The aim of this study was, therefore, to isolate and identify denitrifying-P accumulating heterotrophic bacteria (DPBs) from a NDBEPR system in order to evaluate anoxic P accumulation and the specific mechanisms involved. Results of the study showed various heterotrophic bacteria to be capable of anoxic P accumulation utilising nitrate (NO3) as electron acceptor.

Heterotrophic bacteria were isolated from the pre- and secondary anoxic zones of the Darvill NDBEPR process and characterised according to their ability to reduce nitrates and/or nitrites under anoxic conditions. Results showed that the OHO fraction is more complex than currently accepted and, with respect to denitrification, can be more accurately subdivided into five functional groups, four of which interactively contribute to denitrification occurring in the system and one group that are non-denitrifying.

All discrete steps in the mechanistic sequence of PCS can be identified in TpCS. The catalytic strategies identified in PCS, destabilization of the oxaloacetate substrate carbonyl and stabilization of the reactive species, acetyl-CoA enolate, are present in TpCS.
