Plastic pollution in Special Protected Areas for Migratory Birds and Sites of Community Importance is a growing environmental concern. These areas, often designated to provide safe habitats for migratory bird species, are increasingly threatened by plastic litter. In this study, we conducted the first assessment of plastic litter, ranging from macro to microplastics, in beach sediments from two sites (Montorsoli Beach and Pylon Beach) along the coast of the Strait of Messina, a Special Protected Area, to assess beach quality and ecological risk.

Butorphanol-azaperone-medetomidine (BAM) is commonly used for white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) immobilization in captive and free-ranging populations. It is a federally regulated controlled substance requiring stringent regulatory compliance, complicating field application. A prescription-only drug combination, nalbuphine-medetomidine-azaperone® (NalMed-A) provides a less-regulated alternative for use by wildlife professionals.

Objectives: Oral anticoagulation therapy (OAC) is often contraindicated in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) because of the high hemorrhagic risk. Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) can prevent thromboembolic events while avoiding long-term anticoagulation. However, a short period of antithrombotic therapy (AT) is still recommended after LAAO, and, therefore, it is unclear whether patients with CAA can be candidates for LAAO.
