Background: Aetiological diagnosis and targeted antibiotic therapy are essential to improve the prognosis of patients with infective endocarditis. Molecular tests on blood have been reported to be effective in identifying the causative organism and are recommended when blood cultures are negative. The role of molecular tests on the surgically excised valve is still unclear and needs further investigation.

Background: Malnutrition has been variously associated with poor postoperative outcomes. Of note, 10-25 % of cardiac surgery patients are reported to be malnourished.
Objectives: To assess the impact of nutritional status (evaluated with the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index - GNRI) on outcomes of older patients undergoing heart valve surgery.
Background And Purpose: Learners face a variety of academic and personal challenges that may impact performance in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs. Academic coaching has emerged as a student support model within undergraduate medical education but has not yet been evaluated in DPT education. The purpose of this method/model presentation was to describe the development, implementation, and evaluation of 2 coaching programs.

Although silylation of the primary rim is readily achieved by treatment with tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride in the presence of pyridine (either alone or mixed with a co-solvent), the reaction typically results in a mixture containing both under- and oversilylated byproducts that are difficult to remove. To address this challenge in preparing a pure product in high yield, we describe an approach that centers on the addition of a controlled excess of silylating agent to avoid the presence of undersilylated species, followed by the removal of oversilylated species by column chromatography elution with carefully designed solvent mixtures.
