Gambling advertising regulation in Ghana: what do we know and where to next?

In Ghana and many other sub-Saharan African countries gambling advertising has become pervasive due to weak regulations that allow gambling operators to zealously promote their products as a risk-free way to make money. In this commentary, we provide a public health perspective based on document analysis of the Ghana Gaming Commission's guidelines on advertisements, and recommendations for strengthening Ghana's gambling regulatory environment. With the industry intensifying its focus on new markets to grow and sustain profits, and new global players entering Ghana's market, the competition for market share will most likely intensify with an associated and aggressive increase in gambling advertising.

Management of epilepsia partialis continua: A systematic review.

Purpose: Epilepsia partialis continua (EPC) is form of focal motor status epilepticus, with limited guidelines regarding effective pharmacological management. This systematic review aimed to describe previously utilized pharmacological management strategies for EPC, with a focus on patient outcomes.

Methods: A systematic review of the databases PubMed, EMBASE, and SCOPUS was performed from inception to May 2024.

Mechanical Circulatory Support in Patients Without Cardiogenic Shock Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Background: The use of mechanical circulatory support devices for high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has increased over the past decade despite limited data of benefit. We sought to examine the association between intravascular microaxial left ventricular assist device (LVAD) versus intra-aortic balloon pump use in patients without cardiogenic shock (CS) undergoing PCI.

Methods And Results: This retrospective study analyzed claims data from a large, insured population who underwent PCI without CS from April 1, 2016 to July 31, 2022.

Comparative mapping of single-cell transcriptomic landscapes in neurodegenerative diseases.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD), Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and Parkinson's disease (PD) represent a spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders (NDDs). Here, we performed the first direct comparison of their transcriptomic landscapes.

Methods: We profiled the whole transcriptomes of NDD cortical tissue by snRNA-seq.

Breakthrough cancer pain management: mixed-methods study of health care professionals.

Objectives: Knowledge gaps in defining, diagnosing, educating health practitioners and treatment options hinder breakthrough cancer pain (BtCP) management. A systematic review revealed a lack of clarity on health professional derived definitions, management strategies and professional development for BtCP. The current study aimed to explore the perspectives of multidisciplinary health professionals by seeking to understand how they define, identify, treat and manage BtCP, barriers to management and professional development requirements.
