Most molluscs possess shells, constructed from a vast array of microstructures and architectures. The fully formed shell is composed of calcite or aragonite. Objective: The purpose of this study was to enhance awareness among healthcare professionals about the application of guidelines relating to the management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer patients.

Methods: This collective approach involved: the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the Unions of Representatives of Healthcare Professionals (URPS), the Observatory of Drugs, the Medical Devices and Therapeutic Innovation agency (OMEDIT), the regional Oncology Network and specialist physicians. Performance indicators were defined to evaluate the actions performed.

Guidelines for venous thromboembolism treatment with curative anticoagulation in cancer patients are poorly respected. Yet, venous thromboembolism is the second leading cause of death in cancer patients, after cancer progression. The aim of this study was to re-evaluate the application of these guidelines after the implementation of educational measures for patients and caregivers, and also to assess the acceptability and tolerance of treatment by patients.

Climate change and ocean acidification are likely to have a profound effect on marine molluscs, which are of great ecological and economic importance. One process particularly sensitive to climate change is the formation of biominerals in mollusc shells. Fundamental research is broadening our understanding of the biomineralization process, as well as providing more informed predictions on the effects of climate change on marine molluscs.
