Introduction: Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1) is the most common inherited syndrome associated with NET development and gender-specific differences are emerging in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). This study aimed to analyze gender difference in a single cohort of MEN-1 patients focusing on duodeno-pancreatic (DP)-NET and survival rates.

Methods: MEN-1 patients referred to the Endocrinology Unit of the "Federico II" University of Naples, ENETS CoE, were retrospectively evaluated.

Lung neuroendocrine neoplasms (L-NEN) are heterogeneous tumors. While bone metastases (BM) have been associated with worse prognosis in other NEN, their role in L-NEN deserves in-depth analysis. This study analyzes the clinical presentation, treatment and survival outcomes of L-NEN, focusing on patients with BM compared with patients without metastases or with metastases in other sites (OtherMtx).

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), arising from various sites, present therapeutic challenges. Radioligand therapy (RLT) is effective for unresectable/metastatic NENs with increased somatostatin receptor uptake. While evidence supports RLT's efficacy in midgut NETs, its role in lung NETs remains underexplored.

Article Synopsis
  • - Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) are diverse cancers that are often diagnosed late, which worsens patient outcomes, but new developments in classification, biomarkers, and imaging techniques may lead to earlier diagnoses and tailored treatments.
  • - The article reviews updates in diagnostic methods for NEN, highlighting the importance of consistent classifications in pathology and radiology, as well as the potential of new immunohistochemical markers and blood tests like liquid biopsy for better diagnosis.
  • - Despite advancements, challenges remain in accurately diagnosing NEN due to their complex nature, necessitating further research and improved diagnostic methods to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (Pan-NENs) may exhibit a heterogeneous clinical course, ranging from indolent to progressive/metastatic behavior. In the latter scenario, streptozocin (STZ) is considered the cornerstone of systemic treatment; however, response to STZ-based chemotherapy may vary among individuals. In this narrative review, we aimed to identify the predictive factors of response to STZ in advanced Pan-NENs.
