Here we introduce a first-in-class microRNA-sensitive oncolytic Zika virus (ZIKV) for virotherapy application against central nervous system (CNS) tumors. The described methodology produced two synthetic modified ZIKV strains that are safe in normal cells, including neural stem cells, while preserving brain tropism and oncolytic effects in tumor cells. The microRNA-sensitive ZIKV introduces genetic modifications in two different virus sites: first, in the established 3'UTR region, and secondly, in the ZIKV protein coding sequence, demonstrating for the first time that the miRNA inhibition systems can be functional outside the UTR RNA sites.

(1) Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide. Although cardiovascular and NAFLD risk factors overlap, an independent association between these conditions may exist. Hepatic and cardiac fibrosis are important markers of mortality, but the correlation between these markers in patients with NAFLD has not been well studied.

ECG evaluation showed sinus tachycardia with ST-segment elevation in D1, AVL, V5, and V6, the findings compatible with acute subepicardial myocardial damage. However, cardiac MRI documented myocardial fibrosis, with cardiac late enhancement non-ischemic pattern with diffuse edema.

Background: Artificial insemination is widely employed in poultry, but high degrees of bacterial contamination are often observed in semen because of its passage through the cloaca. Consequently, most semen extenders for birds have antibiotics that could aggravate bacterial resistance.
Methods: We evaluated the potential of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an alternative to the use of antibiotics, and assessed whether changes in concentration and incubation time with methylene blue (MB), radiant exposure, and irradiance of light affect spermatozoa activity and bacteria in chicken semen.
