Background: Our study aims to compare in-hospital management and outcomes in patients with cardiogenic shock due to ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) versus non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the National Inpatient Sample database between 2016-2019, including patients with STEMI/NSTEMI complicated by cardiogenic shock. An inverse probability treatment weighting analysis was performed to compare in-hospital management and outcomes between patients with STEMI and NSTEMI.

Article Synopsis
  • Psychological factors significantly impact acute coronary syndrome (ACS) recovery, yet interventions addressing these factors are often absent in cardiac rehabilitation programs due to mixed evidence on effectiveness.
  • This study tested a combined cognitive-behavioral treatment and positive psychology therapy program against standard rehabilitation in 87 ACS patients, measuring various psychological and clinical outcomes at different intervals.
  • Results indicated that the intervention group experienced notable improvements in depression, anger management, and cognitive function, while the control group showed declines in these areas, although both groups had similar advancements in overall clinical outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Households are key locations for the spread of SARS-CoV-2, yet there's limited understanding of how the virus transmits, especially with different variants and prior immunity.
  • A study in the Boston area from March to July 2022 tracked 33 households, revealing that 58% of them reported a secondary case of COVID-19, with a secondary attack rate (SAR) of 39%.
  • Results showed that household contacts are at significant risk of infection within two weeks of exposure, influenced not only by the original infected person but also by higher community transmission rates.
