Because of long-term immunosuppression, solid organ transplant recipients are at increased risk for keratinocyte cancer. We matched solid organ transplant patients ( = 150), cases with keratinocyte cancers and tumor-free controls, considering the most important risk factors for keratinocyte cancer in solid organ transplant recipients. Using whole exome data of germline DNA from this patient cohort, we identified several genetic loci associated with the occurrence of multiple keratinocyte cancers.

Article Synopsis
  • Phlegmasia alba dolens is a rare condition linked to significant blood clots in the iliofemoral veins, which can also occur due to clotted inferior vena cava filters.
  • A 39-year-old patient with a history of protein S deficiency and prior inferior vena cava filter placement experienced severe pain and swelling in both legs, revealing extensive deep vein thromboses.
  • After confirming the blockage caused by the filter, a staged endovascular treatment including filter removal and thrombectomy improved the patient's condition, allowing for discharge with anticoagulation therapy.

A patent foramen ovale (PFO) is present in 27-35% of the population. Right to left cardiac shunts predispose patients to arterial emboli in the presence of venous thromboembolisms. Paradoxical embolus should be suspected in patients with deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and arterial emboli.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between skin aging, UV exposure, and the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) in organ transplant recipients (OTR).
  • Compared to OTR with NMSC, healthy controls showed greater signs of skin aging, but similar UV exposure levels, except for specific intentional sun exposure.
  • Key findings reveal that skin aging, intentional sun exposure, and certain genetic factors significantly increase the risk of NMSC, highlighting the importance of monitoring OTR for skin-related complications.

Introduction: We aim to investigate the effect of vitamin D on metabolic parameters in a population with prediabetes and to detect possible sex differences.

Methods: In 621 patients with diagnosed prediabetes, glucose, lipid, and anthropometric parameters were measured. Furthermore, the interaction of 25-OH-vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D) with metabolic and glucose metabolism parameters was analysed in the total prediabetic population, as well as after stratification by sex (female vs.
