Adverse effects by artificial grapefruit seed extract products in patients on warfarin therapy.

Objective: Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is promoted as a natural product with antibacterial and antiviral properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the composition of some commercially available GSE products and evaluate their effect in vitro on two cytochrome P450 enzymes, CYP2C9 and CYP3A4.

Methods: A couple on lifelong treatment with warfarin and continuous regular follow-ups took some drops of a GSE product for 3 days.

MR imaging of primary, secondary, and mixed forms of lymphedema.

Purpose: To describe the pathological features and assess the diagnostic information of different MR sequences in patients with primary, secondary, and mixed (phlebo-, lipophlebo-, or lipolymphedema) forms of lymphedema of the lower leg.

Material And Methods: In 26 patients with clinical diagnoses of primary (n=10), pure secondary (n=4), mixed (n=9) and combined secondary and mixed forms of lymphedema (n=3), MR imaging was performed with coronal and axial T1 SE, T2 TSE, fat-suppressed (SPIR) T2 sequences and axial T1 SE after i.v.

Etoposide, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide and high-dose betamethasone (EACB) as outpatient salvage therapy for refractory multiple myeloma.

Fifty-six patients with refractory multiple myeloma were treated with intermittent courses of etoposide, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide and high-dose betamethasone (EACB) every 4th week. The overall response rate was 30%. Durable remissions exceeding 1 year were obtained in 12 of the 17 responding patients.
