Aims And Background: Based on the fact that scintigraphy more readily reveals uptake of a radioisotope in a superficial position owing to incomplete surgical radicality, the authors examined by 67Ga scintigraphy a group of patients who had undergone dissection of lymph nodes of the neck from carcinoma with extranodal spread. They then checked the follow-up to ascertain the efficacy of 67Ga scintigraphy in relation to the eventual recurrences in the soft tissues of the neck.

Methods: A group of 136 patients were examined by 67Ga scintigraphy and followed for a minimum of 3 years after complementary radiotherapy.

The authors evaluated 200 cases of long-term relapses in patients subjected to mastectomy at least 8 years before and not given any hormonal or other therapy that would have significantly affected the course of the disease. A group of 200 mastectomy patients with early relapses (within 3 years) was used as a control. The following parameters were compared: histologic type, singularity or multiplicity of the relapses at the time of the diagnosis, the patient's age at the time of the mastectomy, the presence of metastatic lymphnodes at the axilla, the clinical course of the disease after the diagnosis of relapse, and the presence of estrogen receptors in the primary tumor.

A series of 355 extravisceral soft tissue sarcomas is presented with reference to the effectiveness of radiation treatment for each histological type and the problems of radiotherapy and surgical treatment. Liposarcoma was the most radiosensitive soft tissue sarcoma. By utilizing all types of treatment and especially radiosurgery with postoperative radiotherapy, the percentage of disease-free patients after a minimum of 3 years from treatment varied from 27% to 52.
